Welcome to the fascinating world of **Working Equitation (WE)** — a sport where tradition, precision, and the deep connection between horse and rider take center stage. Whether you're brand-new to equestrian sports or an experienced rider seeking a fresh challenge, Working Equitation invites you to explore a discipline that is as diverse as it is dynamic.

###  What is Working Equitation?

Working Equitation is a **multi-phase equestrian sport** that combines elements of classical dressage, obstacle negotiation, speed, and cattle work. Rooted in the traditional working riding styles of countries like Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy, WE is now practiced around the globe — and it's gaining momentum across the Midwest.

This uniquely inclusive sport celebrates all breeds, disciplines, and riding styles. It rewards harmony between horse and rider, adaptability, and courage, whether you're navigating a dressage pattern, opening a gate, or herding a cow through a pen.

### The Four Trials of Working Equitation

**1. Dressage Trial**
Showcases the horse's suppleness, rhythm, and                                                                           responsiveness through a prescribed set of                                                                                          movements — similar to classical dressage.

**2. Ease of Handling Trial (EOH)**
A judged obstacle course that demonstrates the horse’s confidence, obedience, and ability to perform real-world tasks.

**3. Speed Trial**
An exhilarating timed obstacle course that tests                                                                                       speed, agility, and teamwork under pressure.

**4. Cattle Trial *(Team Level)***
A fast-paced team event where riders work together to sort and pen designated cattle — a nod to the sport’s ranching roots.
